Humans of New York
While reading humans of New York, the story I chose followed a story of a woman’s dream becoming a reality. While fresh out of law school, this one became involved in a case of a man Who was seeking asylum. This case was especially important because if the woman failed this person would be deported and potentially killed. The man was eventually granted asylum, and this and a vegetable tuck a liking for pro bono meaning for the public cases. One portion I enjoyed was the woman spoke that this man thanked her by taking her to McDonald’s even though she was a vegetarian. She later described winning this case as unlocking a superpower. She then introduces another character she meets during a music festival named Kristin or KBad. Explaining her passion, they create a plan for creating a type of system to increase lawyers on these types of cases. These two individuals took a leap of faith to pursue their passions. They both put in the effort and remained persistent. Five years later, their company is now one of the first successful justice tech companies. I found this story to be inspiring, that just an idea can become a movement helping thousands of people. I enjoyed that this story was told from her perspective, I felt that she told the story well and kept me engaged. The images also drew me in showing the woman dressed and looking confident. It was also funny to see the actual picture of them at the music festival. I believe the overall purpose was to illustrate the struggle the woman faced, all while keeping a positive mindset. Its important in life to believe in one's self, without dreams change can not come. Overall, this piece was incredible and showed that a single powerful connection can open doors of possibility and success.
