Under threat of a weeping sky, mankind leaves nothing untouched: greyed out sidewalks and frozen benches, piles of snow on gutters hanging on for dear life, slinking off the harsh angular roof. Here there are cascades of white, pock-marked and punched with holes for coffee cups or rain drops or marks from a person, so like the rest of us, who couldn't resist sticking a finger or two or ten into the snow to feel it crunch, to seeth when the cold kicked in. These are days that pass by slowly and bleakly to an eye untrained in the art of snow days. When the sun blinks off the sidewalk and the promise of spring reveals itself as a bud on the young branch of a birch tree, we know winter's timeless grasp cannot hold us for good, only just long enough to watch us madden in the dimming light of the afternoon sunset.
