Humans of B205- Alex Colella

Humans of B205 B205 is the apartment right in the center of Main Street, Durham NH that we all call home. This petite apartment became the most monumental part of our college experience. Morgan, Donatella, Kayla, and I have lived together for 2 years here and we made the consecutive decision that it was the best idea to live here together. Without the memories we created here, it would not be as sentimental to us. Knowing that we are leaving this home, town, university in just a few weeks is breaking all of our hearts into pieces. Morgan and I have been best friends for almost 10 years now. We grew up in a small town called North Reading in Massachusetts. In our friend group at home there are 8 of us and we never thought we would be the ones to go to college together. Our parents became best friends with each other so our families meshed together so perfectly. She has an older sister that became my older sister. We became friends through a mutual friend that we both have and when all 3 of us hung out one day in 6th grade, Morgan and I just clicked. I originally committed to the University of New Hampshire and Morgan did not commit until July before the semester started in August. We became roommates our sophomore year of college but it was our junior year when we chose to live in B205. “This place is not just our college apartment, it is our home”, said Morgan. She always kept mentioning that having random objects around the apartment makes it feel even homier because of the different aspects we accumulated over the years. Morgan said, “Without the random picture of Mona Lisa on the door, I don’t think living here would be the same”. The random decorations are Morgan’s favorite part of the apartment. We have a Mona Lisa picture, a paper snowflake wall, random Christmas decorations, and the “cowboy lamp”. Kayla is also from Morgan and I’s hometown except we were never friends with Kayla until we got to college. We talk about that all the time because it is hard to comprehend to the outside world. Morgan and I were in the same friend group but Kayla was in a different friend group so we never really saw her. Once Morgan and Kayla ended up living on the same floor in Stoke Hall their freshman year of college is when we started talking and becoming closer. When living together senior year came around I realized that Kayla is one of the funniest people I have ever met and was so confused why we were not friends growing up. “Becoming friends with you guys was the best decision I made in college, I don’t even care that we are from the same hometown and living together, it makes it that much better!”, said Kayla. Kayla did not live with us until senior year so we have only had about 8 months of living together but it is hilarious. Kayla loves that B205 is open and welcoming. She feels as though each room is her room. Kayla walks into everyone’s room and lays on their bed like they are her own, and it never gets old. No one gets mad about it, we all just know it is what she does and we all love it. Kayla said, “I think without B205 I would hate my last year of school here. She always says that she wishes she could pack us up in a box and be brought home with her when we graduate. Such a weird and freaky thing to say but we all love Kayla too much that we have accepted it and would do that for her. Donatella is the most one of a kind person I have ever met in my life and I will say that until the day I die. That girl is on the go 24/7, so she is either in the apartment or we have not seen her for 14 hours. But the best thing about Donatella is her ability to talk about whenever and wherever she is. She walks into B205 and can talk a mile a minute about anything. She gets distracted by having too long of conversations with us and ends up being late to wherever she needs to go. “B205 is my safe space where I can do anything I want, I love just walking into anyone's room and having a conversation with them for over 45 minutes just cause I can”, said Donatella. She admits that without the girls in B205 she would feel lost and would not know where to turn. B205 became a huge part of our lives for all these exact reasons. Now there is one part of B205 that makes it the most memorable to all of us that live here but even people who come over. We do something called “rotting”. What we mean by rotting is sitting on our enormous couch after a night out and sitting on the couch all day where we do absolutely nothing. Honestly the only time we get up from the couch is to go to the front door to grab the GrubHub food we got delivered because we are too busy rotting to make food. It almost feels like a crime to get up from the couch. Anyone who comes over during that time is almost required to sit on the couch and rot with us. “Anytime we wake up the next day after going out we text each other and say ‘rotting is happening in 20 minutes’ and once that 20 minutes is up we all descend from our rooms to the couch”, said Kayla. It is a routine at this point, you know not to make plans on a Sunday or you can not get scheduled to work because we have to rot. So many memories and friendships have come out of B205, random people come with our friends to our apartment and new friendships form. We all think that B205 is almost like the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow because it is the best place, that might be a biased phrase but that is what it feels like to us.
