I listed to a podcast on StoryCorps which was titled "It has changed my life to find out who I was". It was about Ukrainan history and the history of these people's family history. The podcast starts off with explaining a genocide that had happened to Ukraian men, women, and even children. Being an immigrant in France, Helena had no idea that her parents were caught up in this genocide. There was a story that Helena wanted to tell her daughter so she could learn about her family. the daughter said that the voice Helena would use when explaining the story was very hard and tragic. The voice in Helena's story really helped capture the pain the story. It was an important podcast because you could hear the shock and realization in their voices. Their voices helped to move the podcast into something meaningful. It had a lot of emotion and it was raw which helped to portray their story that they were trying to tell. This podcast is meaningful to me because especially during this time right now with everything going on between Ukraine and Russia, it is interesting to hear more about Ukrainian histroy. It gives more information to the world. Also I really enjoy the family history being passed down to generations so each generation knows stories about their family.
This sounds super interesting, I'll have to give it a listen. I agree that the topic is relevant, especially as Ukraine is being invaded. Listening to the voices of immigrants is extremely important.
