Paragraph:

A soft, cool wind whispers at my ear. Like a child it begs for attention. Notice me. Breathe me. Give into the cold. I move my eyes from the grey landscape, beyond the dirty slush, and to the heaping piles of pure white surrounding me. The child urges me to look closer. As I stare, the compact snow transports me to warmer days of youth-sticky, saccharine, blue raspberry cones after the circus or a fresh scoop of vanilla after a summer swim. The air shifts, kicking up flakes to gravel–Powdered sugar sifted onto greasy slabs of dough. Icicles become the rock candy crystals littered in museum gift shops, and the chilling air- a welcome change from the summer heat. The child reminds me then–while winter is sweet–that there was a time before I had grown bitter to the snow.

  1. Nice melding of winter with summer memories and the transformation into childhood treats--the sweetness of winter! :)
