Memoir Reflection (Blog Post #3)

The memoir, "Why Be Happy When You Can Be Normal?" was probably my favorite out of each memoir that we have read so far. It is super honest and can be read very understandingly. Jeanette Winterson revealed her story with her mother which helped tell her memoir. She talked about her life, open and honestly, and would describe how one thing led to another. The title "Wrong Crib" sounds very slang but also gets her point across. To me it seemed like she was going to describe how the home she grew up in was not the right one, and that it did not work out for her or her childhood. "Becoming" by Michelle Obama was also an honest memoir that was easy to read. It almost felt like the way it was written was how she would be talking about the stories that she was sharing. She would reveal what she did not remember but then give great detail about what she did remember. Whether it was about the outfits her friends wore or the walls in her childhood home. The memories by Jeanette Winterson was about things that her mother made her remember. It was conveyed by the phone call she had with her mother after several years of not speaking to her. It brought out feelings from while she was talking to her to feelings she felt about her mother as a child. Michelle Obama revealed her memories from college and they were memories that sounded like any other college student who was in school, either the outfits, her boyfriend, her friends, etc. "On Memory and Memoir" had different elements portrayed. Elements talked about the author's truthfulness, how memories shape our philosophical side, and how even mot having all the details about a memory can go into a memoir. "The Art of Memoir" talks about how a single memory can unlock more than you would think. It is almost like the passage to memories that you thought you forgot about. Also it talks about how one's memory can be different than another person even if both people were there. People see different details than others and both details from each person can create an even bigger memory.
