One book of non-fiction that I have read recently is called “Drug Use For Grown-Ups” by Carl Hart. This book describes his life and how drug use affected him. It goes through his life and challenges that drugs have caused. It is really interesting because sometimes people do not want to admit that they are addicted to drugs. Hart describes it all and admits it almost proudly. The way he wrote this book seemed casual and honest and is why I was so intrigued. He almost made all of his experiences with drugs sound normal and would elaborate on each experience which made you want to know more. An excerpt from this book is, “I am an unapologetic drug user. I take drugs as part of my pursuit of happiness, and they work. ... The Declaration asserts that each of us is endowed with certain “unalienable Rights,” including “Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness,” and that governments are created for the purpose of protecting these rights.” (Hart, 2021). He references the Declaration to explain why he uses drugs and explains that he is allowed to.

  1. This book sounds so intriguing! I have taken a few psychology courses, like psychobiology, that discusses how psychology is related to behavior and other aspects of life like drugs and addiction. Sounds like this book might help destigmatize the way addiction is handled and make it more accessible to talk about it with others more casually, which might help others who face similar problems easier to face. Definitely sound like something worth checking out!

  2. This sounds like a very interesting book and a good way to open up a more open minded conversation around drugs. There is so much stigma around drug use and addiction in our society, but this book sounds like it could help people approach the topic better. I'd definitely check this out!
